Saint-Claude is the capital of the pipe. Magon is happy to visit it.One century ago, a lot of factories of pipes were running the city (now only 2 remain), also the polishing of diamonds. Facing hard life of work and strong winters, the workers were meeting in this "House of the People", La Fraternelle (name that I can roughly translate by "The Fraternal"), to make their life better : common food, reunions, art, brotherhood...
Grandaddy Jean-Jaurès still looking after the people in the court
Grandaddy Jean-Jaurès still looking after the people in the courtThe gig was really nice, in this beautiful grand room with the mountains as a background.
We felt at home, and the people there received us like close friends, linked by this belief in music and art (and good food) as true ways of upgrading humanity. Winters stay hard, so does the feeling of fraternity.
We believe in signs. This time in this factory mountainous city is totally connected with our new ideas and themes of the songs we are composing nowadays. As I often say, making Magon laugh a lot, everything is connected...

We've left the beach. Now we are in Paris, ready to spread a bit of love feeling in the city.
We have arranged the songs in a different way to be able to play them only the both of us. We are re-discovering our proper creations.
Magon is now living in Paris. New ideas. Here, it's lighted, cold and grey, but moving fast. All those changes have inspired us for our next album. We'll perfom some of them on stage.
Voilà.
Our friend Roger Valentine is gonna play some songs of his to celebrate his own new life.

Charlotte & Magon - Love Happening
This first landed in our email inbox about 2 weeks ago, and since my first listen, I’ve been unsure on what to write about it. I asked myself: Do I like this album? Yes. Is this album musically credible? Yes. Can I describe what I am hearing? Yes... but not everything. There was something I was hearing that I wasn't able to identify. I could feel it, but I couldn't describe it. So I decided to do some more research, and found out the amazing story behind the creation of this album.
Charlotte & Magon first met online in 2006. Charlotte was a musician from France, and Magon was a musician from Israel. They chatted over the internet for 2 years, then decided to make an album together. Charlotte flew over to Tel-Aviv for 12 days to meet Magon in March 2008. In those 12 days of writing and recording songs together for this album, Charlotte & Magon fell in love, and they've been together ever since. What I was hearing was 2 people in sync, musically, emotionally and spiritually. What I heard was Love Happening; and that is what makes this album so special.
They channel Air, Sigur Ros, and the lighter sides of Dirty Vegas and Phoenix simultaneously, throw in some wave sound effects, French and English spoken word, soft whispering, some honest and heartfelt expression, and a keyboard solo here and there. The chords are dissonant at times, but always seem to resolve (almost mirroring the perils of looking for love, then finding it), and the contrast of Charlotte's soft angelic vocals to Magon's slightly brasher voice blend well together during the more harmonious sections of this record. You can almost see them lovingly gaze at each other in your mind as their enchanting music conveys to you their blossoming love story from track 1 to track 10.
Charlotte & Magon have captured an important facet of human emotion, and successfully expressed it through music. Love Happening is exactly what it feels like to fall in love, and it will warm your soul with it's honesty and charm.

Charlotte & Magon - Love Happening
The story goes that French Charlotte and Israeli Magon communicated on the internet for two years before meeting at the airport in Tel-Aviv, falling in love and deciding to make music together. ‘Love Happening’ is the product of this modern idyll, their declaration of love for each other – and it’s also a curiously compelling piece of work. As a listener, you’d be entitled to feel a little like the third wheel on a night out with an overly touchy-feely couple but, somehow, rather than leaving you frozen out of a conversation that doesn’t concern you, the record has a warm, oneiric aura that draws you in.
Though ‘Love Happening’ feels as if it exists in something of a bubble, there are identifiable musical touchstones: gossamer 70s MOR, Minnie Ripperton maybe, while the drum production, keyboards and fluid bass recall Air, and Sebastien Tellier’s appropriation of 70s porn soundtrack themes. As with Tellier’s ‘Sexuality’, it recalls the sun-dappled, relatively innocent world of soft-core movies like ‘Emmanuelle’, or maybe something even softer than that, Mills & Boon-esque popular romantic fiction. This feeling is enhanced by the album’s sleeve, which depicts a couple embracing in the sea as the sun sets behind them. If that all sounds a little sappy… well, it is. And yet…
Charlotte and Magon’s lightness of touch yields at least a couple of exquisite gems: ‘Vagalam’, notable partly for the almost indecent pulchritude of Charlotte’s vocals, and the devotional climax ‘Cloud Nine’, with its yearning strings and crystalline acoustic guitar resolving in a lush, orch-pop canter. Also, if there’s nothing too earnest about ‘Love Happening’, it’s definitely in earnest; that the nine tracks (it’s a short album, just over 30 minutes) culminate in a song called ‘Nine Cloud’ suggests that the album is describing an ascent towards perfect bliss. But the pair aren’t afraid to sound discordant notes, either figuratively (as on ‘All My Sorries’: “I’ll shave your skin and by dawn I’m gonna kill you” – er, help!) or literally. As with Ripperton’s ‘Loving You’, you can’t help trying to discern ominous shadows anyway but, still, you’ve got to wish the pair well if it means there’s more like this to come.

Charlotte & Magon - Love Happening
Music designed for anyone with a big heart, fabulously mushy, a charming story which reinforces the fact that i`m going a bit soft in my old age. Charlotte And Magon met through the Internet, speaking over a two year period, residents of different countries but each very similar with the interest and desire to make music. Charlotte flew from France to Israel, made a record and fell in love. It seems a passionate uncomplicated story which fortunately produces an amazing atmosphere. Sensual Seventies Pop, Lounge music played intensely and carefully instructed not to shout. Overall a very smart combination, too random to be labelled chill out and too much love in a sense to be experimental."Other then it's obvious meaning, Love Happening is also a reflection on the 60's and 70's, when artists were spreading theirwork on the streets, transforming a normal dayinto an unforgettable creative moment."

Charlotte & Magon - Love Happening
This weekend my seven-year-old son walked in on me and my wife just as we were about to, well, you know, and I mean just as we were about to. She gave out a little yelp in surprise and my boy looked around, his eyes half-shut, and he said "Why are you naked?" and I said, "Well I was putting my pajamas on." "But you already had them on earlier," he said. So I said, "Well I changed them because I was hot." Then he said, "Why is mom naked?" I said, "Well she was also changing," and he said, "But she had her pajamas on before." I said, "She also wanted to change." I started walking him back to his room when he asked "So why was your door closed?" so I said, "We had loud music on."
And we actually did have music on. We were listening to a strange and seductive album by Charlotte & Magon, Love Happening, whose title is reminiscent of 60s style European bedroom pop. But below the surface of this nostalgia that they are so adept at is something slightly cracked and off-kilter. There is a sense that things are going to fall apart at any moment, but this is what makes it compelling. The entire evening was scored by their music, even the interruption of our son, who only highlighted the kind of chance and unpredictability that weaves its way of the music. We were blanketed by it, all of us, our little family on our raft bobbing along the currents of love. When I tucked my son back in, I knew my wife was waiting, but I wanted to linger with him for a moment, because he is the lovely unpredictability that underscores our life.

Love Happening of Charlotte & Magon...
Charlotte is from France, Magon is from Israel, and they live in their music...After meeting and talking through the internet, Magon invited Charlotte to Israel to make music. She accepted and they met this time last year. During the 12 days of making the album, they fell in love. Their debut album is called Love Happening. The album is incredibly mellow, with hints of the 60s and Charlotte's feather weight vocals. Enough synths for catchy and often soft melodies, and quickly cinematic. "We compose our music in the bedroom, thinking of the sea"...sums it up. Get that new Charlotte & Magon album here.

Charlotte & Magon
"We are Charlotte and Magon. We compose our music in the bedroom, thinking of the sea." This is exactly the feel that C&M portray, like looking at the ocean through a bedroom window, and thinking about love and the beach.

"We are Charlotte and Magon. We compose our music in the bedroom, thinking of the sea." This is exactly the feel that C&M portray, like looking at the ocean through a bedroom window, and thinking about love and the beach.
A peaceful incorporation of Magon's deep, poetic french vocals and Charlotte's delicate, weightless soprano, Charlotte and Magon create a feel that comes from the core of an earnest heart. Even their lyrics, aside from their acoustic guitar, waltzing drums and sleeping bass, remind me of breakfast in bed, a sunny day, and a long lost summer memory.
They've just released an album, "Love Happening", which you can buy here. This is what happens when love is turned into music.

It's All About the Love: Charlotte & Magon

They say there is no force on earth so powerful as love; a fifth element to bind all things together and break all barriers apart. So they say. That little voice inside my head that tells me I'm not the best person I can possibly be also whispers rumors of love being a lie, a mere set of convenience, lust and reproduction driven behavior, while all we seek is self approval and denial, an unrequited mirroring indulgence.
But I should know better than to listen to little voices that dwell in the dark recesses of the brain, usually swimming in their own acid filled pools of sarcasm. I know otherwise.
Take Charlotte & Magon's story, for example: meeting for the first time in an airport after two years of web interaction, coming from two different cultures (she's French, he's an Israeli) and joined together by a musical project. The result is love made manifest in an album and music as well as in an enduring relationship.
It's a gray sky-piercing, hope-giving ray of light for some of us.
Check out Charlotte & Magon on their website (for a full stream of the album), MySpace and last.fm for updates and info. Their debut album, Love Happening, is available on Amazon and iTunes.
